Survivor During Covid?

Survivors ready? Survivor fans all across the world have been itching to hear Jeff Probst say those words for months now. The hit reality show used to premiere twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. However, fans have been having withdrawals as the last season to air premiered over a year ago today (March 4th, 2021).

Many people are asking the same question though. Why? Why can't they be filming? Gathering a cast and crew and flying to a private island does seem slightly difficult in the midst of a global pandemic. However, Survivor 40: Winners at War was able to do it, so why not do it again?

Although this season was filmed at the very beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, the producers were able to work around the unknown and put on arguably one of the greatest survivor seasons ever.

This proves that putting on this show during a pandemic is possible. Is it easy? No. Is it ideal? No. However, Survivor is one of the most popular shows on Television, so putting on another season, safely and responsibly is way past due for survivor fans.

Other reality shows, such as Big Brother, were able to put on a great season, at the peak of the pandemic. They took protocols very seriously, and enforced strict rules for all of the cast and crew.

CBS Studios, who owns both Survivor and Big Brother, know what they have to do to put in a successful reality competition show in the midst of a pandemic. But what makes it harder for Survivor than Big Brother?

Big Brother allows for 16 houseguests to essentially be quarantined in a house for 99 days. This is just one step for COVID-19 protocols, so the quarantine aspect is already done. Survivor however, requires the cast and crew to travel out of the country and onto a private island.

This brings the travel ban into question. Do these rules apply to the Survivor franchise or are they able to have an exception for their situation?

There are so many things that make this situation difficult and much easier said than done. However, the process of putting on another season of Survivor is not impossible, and survivor fans having been craving another season. This all now comes down to the waiting game of when CBS will announce the next season, but one thing is certain. Even if the Survivor executives aren't ready, the survivor fans are.
